Because nothing is removed, the procedure is reversible and the lens can be exchanged if the prescription changes substantially. It corrects prescriptions well beyond the laser range and gives notably good night vision quality in high myopia.

It is intraocular surgery, so the risk profile differs from laser: cataract formation, pressure elevation and endothelial cell loss are the concerns monitored at annual follow-up. Anterior chamber depth must be adequate, which is measured at examination.

Frequently asked questions

Is ICL reversible?

Yes. The lens sits inside the eye without removing tissue and can be explanted or exchanged, which is a key difference from laser correction.

Who should choose ICL over LASIK?

People with high myopia beyond the laser range, corneas too thin for tissue removal, or significant dry eye. The trade-off is intraocular surgical risk and roughly double the price.
